Teen Center
NWA has been working on a capital campaign for the purpose of building a Teen Center in the Treasure Valley to serve and provide a safe, supervised alternative for the teens living in the Treasure Valley and surrounding cities. We are hoping to break ground within the next year. The center will be fully supervised, with the teens actively involved in the development of programs and activities. Adult mentors will assist the teens in developing decision making committees, professional leadership skills as well as mentoring programs for other children. Additionally, the teen center will be adjoined by an indoor/outdoor skate board park for year around access.
The Teen Center provides structured Out-of-School Time (OST) enrichment experiences for teens that build a healthy spirit, mind and body. Opportunities provided through OST activities will afford a nurturing and safe environment, which encourages positive choice and personal development. Programs ranging from athletic and recreational to cultural and academically based will contribute to social, life and leadership skills and academic enrichment.
The Teen Center is unique in characteristics benefiting local teens and our community. The Center is comprised of an Administrative Area, Computer Lab/Study Area, TV/Lounge Area, Sporting Area, Concession Area and Gaming Area. Gainful employment opportunities are available to accommodate work experiences within a structured atmosphere. A Teen Advisory Board works closely with the Board of Directors for all aspects of operations. Mentors will fulfill a necessary component of the OST paradigm as positive role models.

Parenting Classes
An 8-week Parent Skills Training program helps parents and their extended families develop specific skills to address the needs of their severely emotional disturbed children. The format for the program was developed from clinical observations, research of community programs, and parental requests for parenting skills specific to their problems in family dynamics, which are not addressed in the typical community and/or school, based programming.
This program is held one night a week for 2 hours and is facilitated by Master’s level social workers and/or counselors. There is no cost to the participants for this program and most are not mandated to receive services. The focus of the program is to assist parents in developing the perceptions, attitudes and interventions necessary to maintain their personal well-being and the unity in the family home while implementing changes in the way the parent responds to the child, and facilitating change in family dynamics with positive and measurable outcomes. This program is offered in both Nampa and Boise. You can call 208.375.0752 for more information.
